The stitch lines provided on the pattern file and The stitch lines provided on the pattern file and the button placement on the #StargazerWearableQuilt really help to fold the hood under. Holding onto the button simply tuck the rest of the hood away pulling the button towards the buttonhole on the neck triangle. The fabric will eventually naturally fold in that direction making it so easy to convert from blanket to poncho.

Designed to be practical, while still feeling beautiful.

The PDF pattern is available now on Etsy and in the Sewillow shop, with detailed instructions covering patchwork, quilting and hood construction.

You can also make it using a ready-made quilt (a single bed size works beautifully).

The Stargazer Wearable Quilt sewing pattern is now The Stargazer Wearable Quilt sewing pattern is now live. ✨

A convertible quilted garment designed to be both blanket and poncho. The hood folds away and buttons neatly so it can be used as a blanket, or unfolds when you want warmth wrapped around your shoulders.

The idea grew from camping trips we’re planning this year, something cosy to sit under in the evening, but wearable if you wander off to watch the sky.

This sample was finished with a tea dye bath, which gave it that muted, vintage tone. I’ll be sharing more about that soon, along with a sew-along.

The pattern includes detailed patchwork instructions and templates, or you can make it from a ready-made quilt (a single bed size works beautifully).

The PDF pattern is available now on Etsy and via my website. I’ll add the link in my stories.

Arnie has been supervising the photos for the new quilted pattern, with varying levels of professionalism.

There was an attempted button nibble and some interest in the tripod.

More photos coming soon… assuming everything survives.

And I’m pleased to say the tea dye bath worked beautifully.

I keep this little bowl on my cutting table, lined with a piece of felt cut to size. The bowl is made from recycled egg cartons — the slightly textured surface helps the felt stay in place — but any bowl would do.

If you’ve ever sewn with felt, you’ll know how it seems to catch every loose thread. It’s perfect for snipped ends and tiny fabric trimmings, keeping them from drifting onto the floor.

I first heard the idea from @sew_pretty_sew_mindful, who mentioned someone keeping felt near their machine for this very reason.

Such a simple thing, but it’s worked beautifully for my recent patchwork and quilting work.

As much as I like to finish projects quickly to ge As much as I like to finish projects quickly to get them out into world, sometimes taking time to do something by hand is simply better.

I've tried many times to bind quilts entirely by machine, but I always come back to hand sewing that final wrap around edge, and always prefer it. So today was a hand sewing day, and some steps are worth slowing down for.
