What is the GPSR?

At Sewillow, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of product safety and ensuring customer satisfaction. As part of this commitment, we are in the process of continually reviewing how we can best comply with the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR), Regulation (EU) 2023/988, which comes into effect on December 13, 2024. This regulation sets out strict requirements designed to protect consumers and ensure that all products available on the European market are safe for use.

The GPSR 2023/988 replaces the previous General Product Safety Directive (2001/95/EC) and introduces a range of new, comprehensive measures aimed at enhancing the safety of consumer products. The regulation applies to all products sold in the EU, whether physical or digital, and impacts manufacturers, importers, distributors, and fulfilment service providers.

The main objectives of the GPSR include:

  • Minimising risks to consumers
  • Providing clear information and warnings for users

As part of our efforts to ensure compliance, we are also reviewing our files and resources, such as the safety guidelines published below.

Sewillow Safety Guidelines

Tool and Equipment Safety

Always use sharp tools responsibly. Ensure your workspace is well-lit, organized, and free from distractions. Keep tools out of the reach of children and pets when not in use.

Supervision for Beginners

If you’re new to sewing or knitting, seek supervision or guidance from an experienced adult when handling sharp tools or operating machinery.

Workspace Safety

Work in a clear, stable, and well-organized space. Avoid placing tools where they could fall or be accidentally reached by children or pets.

Protective Equipment

Consider using cut-resistant gloves, thimbles, or other protective gear, particularly when handling sharp tools or cutting heavy fabrics.

Digital File Safety

While I take every precaution to scan for malware, I recommend that customers only download files from trusted sources and use antivirus software to scan their downloads.

Special Considerations for Children

Sewillow patterns are not intended for use by children under 14 unless under direct adult supervision. If crafting for children, ensure all finished products comply with relevant safety standards.

Safe Printing and Projection

Follow manufacturer instructions for safe use of printers and projectors. Secure projectors on stable surfaces and organize cords to avoid tripping hazards.

Compliance with EU GPSR

Sewillow patterns adhere to the EU General Product Safety Regulations (GPSR). Our guidelines are crafted to ensure safe usage and compliance with these standards.
